Your options
UK Local Numbers
This is a great option for companies who want to expand without the cost and hassle of opening a new office, or where callers are looking for local suppliers – such as taxis, tradesmen or couriers. The cost to your callers is the same as ringing any fixed landline number, and calls are also included in inclusive calling packages.
- Give the impression of having multiple offices, making your business appear larger
- Also called Local Presence, STD Codes or Geographic (geo) numbers
- Target customers who only shop locally
UK Wide Numbers
A great advantage of 03 numbers is that they give companies a national presence as well as giving small businesses the image of being much larger than they are.
- Numbers starting 030 are designed for use only by public bodies and not for profit services
- Numbers starting 033 can be used by any organisation
- Numbers starting 034 and 037 are available to anyone currently using 084 or 087 numbers
- Calls to 03 numbers are included in most inclusive calling plans, so are effectively free for your customers to call
UK Freephone
0800 and 0808 numbers are instantly recognised as Freephone numbers and encourage existing and potential customers to call you at no charge to them – the receiving party pays for the cost of the call. Research shows that using Freephone numbers can significantly increase sales enquiries.
Separate numbers can be used in marketing campaigns to measure which campaigns are more successful than others.
- The most popular type of customer-friendly contact number
- 080 numbers are non-geographic so people won’t judge you on location
- Increase the number of sales enquiries you receive
- Enable customers to call you for free from all UK landlines and mobiles

UK Non Geographic
From the 1st July 2015, Ofcom introduced new rules for companies offering 08 numbers as the way to contact them. The rules are designed to make the cost of calling them clearer to consumers.
Costs to call these numbers are now made up to 2 parts – a Service Charge and an Access Charge. The Service Charge is regulated and set by the phone company that operates the number, and the Access Charge is an unregulated pence per minute cost set by caller’s phone company. When advertising or promoting these types of 08 numbers, you must display the Service Charge. The recommended format is ‘Calls cost Xp per minute plus your phone company’s Access Charge’.
